Monthly Report: September
2002
|
The angling conditions during September could only be described
as atrocious. The sun beat down, water levels dropped dramatically
and what little breeze that did appear came from the north. Understandably
therefore, angling pressure was low as people were reluctant to
take on the unfortunate weather conditions.
That said, there were still some remarkable catches. Robert Haughton
and friends (Owen Jacob, Charles Jacob, William Haughton, Redmond
Cabot and Bob Ludgate) returned for their annual visit and as usual
they did not disappoint. They caught 9 sea trout on Clogher Lough
and 7 on Glenicmurrin before taking 18 sea trout on Fermoyle and
Rusheen Loughs. By way of a slight detour, they ventured out onto
the School House lakes, where Robert landed a fine 2lb 8oz sea trout.
Finally, they hiked up to Shanawona Lough where they landed 5 more
sea trout. Though an enjoyable week was had by all, they did concede
that the conditions made the going quite tough. Jean Louis returned
to his preferred river beat 3 where he landed 2 fine fish, a salmon
of 7 lbs and a 2lbs 12 oz sea trout. Steven Peare also went exploring
the School house lakes where he caught an impressive 3 lbs sea trout.
Pat Farrelly chose Glenicmurrin for his day out and was rewarded
with 6 sea trout. The Carraroe Angling Club held their annual competition
and recorded 38 sea trout. Congratulations to Johnny Costello who
won the competition and runner up Matt Costello who landed a fine
18 inch sea trout.
Finally, everyone at The Costello & Fermoyle Fishery and Fermoyle
Lodge would like to say thank you to all our anglers for making
the season so enjoyable. Bookings are now being taken for the 2003
season.
