Monthly Report: June 2003
|
Following a very wet month of May, weather conditions for June
became more settled, with a mixture of dry and wet days providing
both good and bad fishing conditions.
The spring fish were late in arriving and it was well into May before
the first of them were caught. The grilse are also late and the
run is just getting under way at the time of writing. Jean Pierre
Maire (Galway) caught the first grilse of the season on Rusheen
Lough, a nice fish of 6lbs on the Badger Shrimp. He struck again
on River Beat 3 where he landed a 7lbs grilse and 2 sea trout ,
this time with a Black Shrimp. Greg Perry (Galway) fished Fermoyle
Lough and was rewarded with a 5 lbs grilse on the Silver Stoat.
Tony Kavanagh was next up on Fermoyle and caught a fine 7bs salmon.
Richard Freeland (UK) visited Dereen Lough to catch his 5lbs grilse
and a 2lbs sea trout. The Monroe Killer was the well-chosen fly
for John Hildreth who caught a 6lbs grilse on Dereen quickly followed
by a 7lbs grilse on the neighbouring Fermoyle Lough.
More and more fresh fish are moving into the lower part of the system
so we look forward to the remainder of the month and onto July for
the main run of sea trout.
