Monthly Report: June 2002
|
It was a difficult start to the season at Costello & Fermoyle Fisheries.
The salmon were late arriving, and the system was in flood for most
of May and June. High water and strong winds made life difficult
for the anglers especially on the river beats. Fish were less inclined
to pause in river pools and tended to shoot straight up into the
lakes. That said, there were still some great days had.
Jean-Pierre Maire (Galway) caught a fresh 4lb grilse way up at
Lough Clogher. Mr Richard Freeland (England), fishing Fermoyle Lough,
started his week's catch with a 1lb sea-trout on the silver stoat.
He struck again the following day on Fermoyle landing 2 grilse (5
& 6lbs, Ally Shrimp) and 2 sea trout (both 1lb 4oz) with a Silver
Stoat. The following day he fished River Beat 1 and Fermoyle Lough
and was rewarded with a 5lb 8oz grilse on the river and a 6lb grilse
on the lake. His companion, Mr John Hildreth (England), also landed
a 5 lbs grilse on Fermoyle Lough. Jonathan and Sheena Forrest fished
river beat 2, where Jonathan caught a beautiful 7 lb grilse. Mrs
McDonnell chose Glenicmurrin Lough where she landed 2 sea-trout
(both 1lb 12 oz). Mr Freeland rounded up his week's fishing with
another salmon on Fermoyle weighing in at 5 lbs. Mr John Hildeth
was out early on River Beat 1 where he caught an impressive 2lb
sea-trout. Jean-Pierre Maire opted for River Beat 2 and was rewarded
with a 7lb salmon. Mr Geoffrey Fitzjohn caught the last salmon of
the month on Fermoyle Lough which weighed 6lbs.
So, after a slow start, we saw a total of 30 sea-trout and 15 Salmon
caught in June. Special mention must be given to Regina Niedermann
(Germany) who caught a magnificent 5 lb sea-trout on Fermoyle Lough.
