Monthly Report: July 2003
|
July began with overcast conditions but little rain. The air was
heavy and the threat of thunder was never very far away. But it
was the middle of July before the first big flood arrived. The remainder
of the month remained predominantly overcast with some heavy rain.
Highlights for July include Mr Jean-Pierre Maire who caught a fine
6 lbs salmon on river beat 2 and landed a further 2 salmon the following
day on river beats 2 and 3. The fish weighed in at 10lbs and 6lbs
respectively. Tony Kavanagh fished Fermoyle Lough and caught 6 sea
trout. Tom Gallagher, Tom Mullarkey and Fr Colm Morris had a combined
total of 35 sea trout (including a fish of 3lbs 8 oz) during their
visit to Costello and Fermoyle. Mr Sinclair chose Glenicmurrin Lough
for his day out and was rewarded with 7 sea trout. Pat Farrelly
was very pleased with his fresh 6 lbs grilse from River Beat 1 as
was Paul Richardson who landed a 4lbs grilse also on river beat
1. John Hill was very happy with his 5 lbs sea trout taken on Lough
Rusheen.
Chris and Donna Warne fished for 4 days and were rewarded with
some very respectable catches including 13 sea trout on Glenicmurrin
Lough Beat 3 (best fish 5lbs + caught by Donna Warne), 6 sea trout
from Glen 2 and 19 sea trout from Fermoyle Lough over 2 days. David
Uff and John Hill landed 15 sea trout on Glen 3. Eamonn Connolly
was delighted with his 6lbs 8 oz salmon from River Beat 1 and a
fine 3lbs salmon taken on Muckinagh Lough. David Micks fished Glen
4 and caught 9 sea trout whereas Alan Molloy went to Fermoyle Lough
and landed 11 sea trout. Steven Peare also fished Fermoyle where
he caught 9 sea trout.
The Carraroe Angling Club were unlucky with the bright conditions
for the first leg of their competition but still did very well with
a total of 25 fish for 7 rods including a 2 lbs sea trout caught
by Myles Costello on the neighbouring Crumlin system. Eamonn O'
Brien also fished well, catching 9 sea trout on Muckinagh Lough.
At the time of writing the system still has alot of water but is
fishing consistantly.
