Monthly Reports: August 2005

The summer drought continued on until late August but was followed by a succession of 3 floods. Understandably rod pressure was low for the month but Glenicmurrin Lough, in particular, fished well in the low water conditions. Once the rains did arrive so did the anglers. Highlights for the month include:

Neil McGrath and Ronan O Grady fished Glenicmurrin Lough and caught 7 sea trout. Mike MacDonagh and Jean-Pierre Maire were also out on Glenicmurrin where they landed 8 sea trout. Greg Perry chose the same lake and was rewarded with 7 sea trout. Sean Finnerty and Padhraig McDonagh had a great day on Glenicmurrin where they caught 18 sea trout (Best 2lbs 12oz). The O Reilly Party opted for Fermoyle Lough and landed 9 sea trout. Rene returned to his preferred river beat 3 where he landed 13 sea trout, but not before stopping at river beat 1 to catch a 6lbs grilse. He was back a few days later to river beat 3 where he teased out another 14 sea trout and a 4 lbs salmon. The Fitzjohn Party had 8 salmon during over the course of a weekend including Charlie De Burgh's first salmon, a fine fish of 5 lbs.

Pat Murray headed straight to Clogher as the water level was dropping and were "moving fish as soon as we were in the boat". Pat's tally for the day: 15 sea trout. Eamon Connolly and Padhraig Joyce spent an evening on Glenicmurrin and landed 8 sea trout. Eugene O Hagan caught 10 sea trout, also from Glenicmurrin. Simon Tarpey visited Fermoyle where he had 8 sea trout. Paul McCabe had 6 from Glenicmurrin. John Barton enjoyed his day on Clogher Lough where he landed 10 sea trout. Dennis Quill and his son David, braved strong winds and did extremely well to land 11 sea trout and lost 2 salmon before being blown off after just 1 and a half hours fishing. Afterwards Dennis commented "The sea trout are back!" Jean Pierre Maire had 9 sea trout on Clogher and Sean Finnerty finished off the month beautifully with 12 sea trout also taken from Clogher including a great fish of 5lbs 6oz.
